“A nation without a past is a nation without a present or a future. Thanks to God, our nation has a flourishing civilization, deep-rooted in this land for many centuries. These roots will always flourish and bloom in the glorious present of our nation in its anticipated future.” → HH Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Founding Father of the UAE.
The whole nation unites to celebrate the 53rd National Day of the UAE on 2 December 2024. Commonly known as' Al-Eid Al Watani', UAE national day is celebrated every year to commemorate the United Arab Emirate's formal nationalisation. On this date, all seven Emirates—Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Sharjah, Umm Al Quwain, and Ras Al Khaimah—unified into one nation free from the British Protectorate Treaties. Dripping firework displays, elaborate parades, concerts, and glittering ceremonies are some of the beautiful experiences you’ll get on this day.
On December 1, employees in the UAE are given the day off to commemorate Commemoration Day. National Day events continue on December 2 and 3. Since December 1 falls on a Thursday, you'll probably have a four-day weekend. In fact, the country will be bustling with events on Thursday, December 2, 2024, many of which will showcase UAE culture and ongoing traditions. There will be simultaneous celebrations and performances around the UAE. The UAE National Day parades 2024, the Abu Dhabi air show, the Dubai fireworks, the Global Village celebrations, the Zayed Sports City Stadium festivities, Yas Marina, Emirates Palace, the Al Seef fireworks, the Al Fursan air show, the Dubai Mall, and many other events can make your eyes sparkle during the day
H. H. Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan was the first President of the UAE. He is known as the Father of the Nation due to his role in the formation of the UAE. His qualities of patience, vision, and wisdom earned him the title of "the wise man of the Arabs".
H. H. Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum was a visionary who transformed Dubai from a small trading town into a major cosmopolitan city. His exceptional leadership attributes and abilities made him say that every citizen in the country has the opportunity to express their opinion frankly and clearly and to criticise the government as well. Now everyone who adores the city can proudly proclaim, "This is My Dubai."
H. H. Sheikh Khalid Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi ruled Sharjah with compassion and wisdom until 1972 as the successor of H. H. Sheikh Saqr Bin Sultan Al Qasimi. He participated in the first talks to form the federation and helped to establish the General Security and Police Force in 1967.
H. H. Sheikh Rashid Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi was the ninth ruler of Ajman. Thanks to his leadership, Ajman was the first emirati to issue its own passports. He founded the Ajman Police Department in 1967. In addition, he helped construct a science institute, adopted civil and Islamic law, offered free healthcare, built an electric grid, and a system of water pipelines.
H.H. Sheikh Ahmed was just 18 when he assumed his position as the Ruler of Umm Al Quwain in 1928. His aim was to work for the betterment of his citizens. So he established the first school and hospital in the region, built a police and public security department, and paved the emirate's first roads.
On July 17, 1948, H. H. Sheikh Saqr Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi acceded to the throne as ruler of Ras Al Khaimah. He established security and peace in the emirate and gave his citizens a fair standard of living. In 1956, he opened the first girls' school in the emirate, among many other educational institutions.
H. H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Al Sharqi, who ruled Fujairah from about 1937 to 1974, was a source of inspiration and hope for the people. He believed in the separate identity of Fujairah, which Britain finally recognised in 1952. His main initiatives include formalising the Sharia court system, road construction, and the emirate's first book library.
The occasion marks the formal nationalisation of the United Arab Emirate, which took place on December 2, 1971, when a British treaty came to an end. As a result, the sheikhdoms of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ajman, Al-Ain, Sharjah, and Umm al-Quwain in the erstwhile Trucial States were eventually federally united in 1971 to form the current nation. Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan presided over the federation as its first leader.
The United Arab Emirate's flag was also adopted on December 2nd, 1971 and hoisted by the first president to formally declare the establishment of the United Arab Emirates as an independent country. Later in February, Ras Al Khaimah made the decision to join and become the seventh emirate. Since then, UAE National Day has been celebrated in a riot of exuberant celebrations across the Gulf nation.
